Materials:

Crochet hook (K)7mm

Caron Big Cakes or similar weight/ply yarn (4 medium)

Ruler (1-2 inch high) *use the same ruler for all squares

tapestry/yarn needle for weaving in ends scissors

Abbreviations:

* Magic Circle (MC)

* Slip Stitch (SLST.)

* Chain (CH)

* Single Crochet (SC)

* Half Double Crochet (HDC)

* Double Crochet (DC)

* Front Post Double Crochet (FPDC)

(Yarn over, working at the front of your work, place the hook under the marked stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through 2, yarn over, pull through 2. )

* Back Post Double Crochet (BPDC)

(Yarn over, working at the back of your work, place the hook under the marked stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull .through 2, yarn over, pull through 2.)

* Front Post Half Double Crochet (FPHDC)

(Yarn over, working at the front of your work, place your hook under the marked stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all three loops)

* Back Post Half Double Crochet (BPHDC) (Yarn over, working at the back of your work, place your hook under the marked stitch, yarn over, pull up a loop, yarn over, pull through all three loops)

* Back Loop Only (BLO) Only crochet a stitch in the back loop.

Pattern:

Row 1: In magic circle ch3, 2DC, ch1, *(3DC, ch1) *x3, slst to top of ch3.
(12DC)

Row 2: ch2, HDC behind ch2 in ch1 space, *BPHDC next 3 stitches, (2HDC,
ch1, 2HDC) in ch1 space to form the corner. Repeat from * 2x. BPHDC next
3 stitches, 2HDC, ch1 in last corner, slst to top of ch2. (28 stitches in
row - 7HDC per side)

Row 3: ch3, DC behind ch3 in ch1 space, *FPDC next 2 stitches, ch1, skip
1 stitch, DC next stitch,ch1, skip 1 stitch, FPDC next 2 stitches, (2DC,
ch1, 2DC) in ch1 space of corner. Repeat from * 2x. FPDC next 2 stitches,

ch1, skip 1 stitch, DC next stitch,ch1, skip 1 stitch, FPDC next 2 stitches,
2DC, ch1 in last corner, slst to top ch3. (36 stitches in row- 5DC, 4FPDC
per side)

Row 4: ch2, HDC behind ch2 in ch1 space, *BPHDC next 4 stitches, ch1,
skip chain space, BPHDC next stitch, ch1, skip chain space, BPHDC next 4
stitches, (2HDC, ch1, 2HDC) in ch1 space of corner. Repeat from * 2x.
BPHDC next 4 stitches, ch1, skip chain space, BPHDC next stitch, ch1,
skip chain space, BPHDC next 4 stitches, 2DC, ch1 in last corner, slst to
top ch3. (54 stitches in row- 9 BPHDC, 4DC per side)

Row 5: ch3, DC behind in ch1 space, * FPDC next 2 stitches, DC next 4
stitches, DC in chain space, DC in next stitch, DC in chain space, DC
next 4 stitches, FPDC next 2 stitches, (2DC, ch1, 2DC) in ch1 space of
corner. Repeat from * 2x. FPDC next 2 stitches, DC next 4 stitches, DC
in chain space, DC in next stitch, DC in chain space, DC next 4
stitches, FPDC next 2 stitches, 2DC, ch1 in last corner, slst to top ch3.
(76 stitches in row- 15DC, 4FPDC per side)

Row 6: ch3, DC behind in ch1 space, * (ch1, skip 1 stitch, DC next
stitch) repeat ( ) to corner, ch1, (2DC, ch1, 2DC) in ch1 space of corner.
Repeat from * 2x. (ch1, skip 1 stitch, DC next stitch) repeat ( ) to
corner, ch1, 2DC, ch1 in last corner, slst to top ch3. (52 stitches in row- 13
DC per side)

Row 7: Repeat row 6 (60 stitches in row - 15 DC per side)

Row 8: ch3, DC behind in ch1 space, *FPDC next 2 stitches, DC in each of
the chain spaces and next stitches across the row, FPDC last 2 stitches
before the corner ch1 space, (2DC ch1 2DC) in ch1 space of corner.
Repeat from * 2x. FPDC next 2 stitches, DC in each of the chain spaces
and next stitches across the row, FPDC last 2 stitches before the corner
ch1 space, 2DC ch1 in last corner, slst to top ch3. (124 stitches in row
- 31 stitches - 27DC, 4PFDC per side)

FPDC first 2 stitches, DC next 31 stitches, FPDC next 2 stitches, 2DC, ch1 in last corner, slst to top ch3. (148 stitches in row - 37 stitches - 4 FPDC, 35DC per side)

Row 11: ch3, DC behind ch3 in ch1 space, *(BLO) DC next 39 stitches, (2DC, ch1, 2DC) in the ch1 space of corner. Repeat from * 2x. DC next 39 stitches, 2DC, ch1, slst to top of ch3. (172 stitches in row - 43 DC per side)

Row 12: ch3, DC behind the ch3 in the ch1 space, *FPDC next 2 stitches, BPDC next 39 stitches, FPDC next 2 stitches, (2DC, ch1, 2DC) in ch1 space of corner. Repeat from * 2x.FPDC next 2 stitches, BPDC next 39 stitches, FPDC next 2 stitches, 2DC, ch1, slst to top of ch3. Fasten off. (188 stitches in row - 47 stitches - 41BPDC, 4FPDC per side)
