(US) September CAL Dazzling shrug

Yeah! It's almost time! Time to start the first CAL! An amazing shrug designed by my mom. She got her inspration from the Bernat wonkey square afghan. <= click here for the afghan pattern.
She finished her shrug and showed it at our crochet group...And it was taken! hahaha. I really loved the shrug and am making it myself at the moment. My version is slightly different. I am using 5 different colors. The original has 2. Both versions will be described in the CAL. We made a special CAL group on Facebook for all your questions, comments and of course the announcement of the CAL parts! Pattern is available in Dutch and in US terms.
About the September CAL:
The CAL wil be publiced in 4 parts.
Every week a new part will be available on the blog.
Sizes:
The pattern has been designed in a way that any size (S to XXXL) can be made. Put your arms up ( Like your an airplane) and let someone else measure from elbow to elbow. That's all you need to know to make your own custom dazzling shrug! You'll be using these measurements in the 3rd part of the CAL. At the end of part 3, your "square" will be elbow to elbow.
The Yarn:
The yardage is based upon the number of skeins we needed for the sizes.
We recommend to use yarn suitable for hook size F/5 and G/6.
Colour 1 is the colour with which you will make the edging
Colour 2 is the 2nd color of the shrug
Size S
Colour 1: 985 yards (900 meters)
Colour 2: 739 yards (675 meters)
Varigated yarn: You will need one skein in a solid colour for edging and 1181 yards (1080 meters) of varigated yarn
Size M
Colour 1: 1230 yards (1125 meters)
Colour 2: 739 yards (675 meters)
Varigated yarn: you will need one skein of solid colour for edging and 1181 yards (1080 meters) of varigated yarn
Size L
Colour 1: 1230 yards (1125 meters)
Colour 2: 985 yards (900 meters)
Varigated yarn: you will need two skeins of solid color for edging and 1575 yards (1440 meters) of varigated yarn
Size XL
Colour 1: 1476 yards (1350 meters)
Colour 2: 1230 yards (1125 meters)
Varigated yarn: you will need two skeins of solid colour for edging and 1969 yards (1800 meters) of varigated yarn
Size XXL
Colour 1: 1800 yards (1645 meters)
Colour 2: 1230 yards (1125 meters)
Vargated yarn: you will need two skeins of solid color for edging and 2363 yards (2160 meters) of varigated yarn
Size XXXL
Colour 1: 1800 yards (1645 meters)
Colour 2: 1550 yards (1417 meters)
Varigated yarn: you'll need three skeins of solid color for edging and 2750 yards (2500 meters) of varigated yarn
The original:
My mom used Lammy Cable 4
She made a size M. And used approx. 1700 meters
5 skeins Lammy Cable 4 color 312 (coral)
3 skeins Lammy Cable 4 color 005 (white)
CrochiqueNL version:
I used 5 different colors of scheepjes cotton 8 and made a size L/ XL
Color 1: 501 (2 skeins)
Color 2: 663 (3 skeins)
Color 3: 664 (3 skeins)
Color 4: 665 (3 skeins)
Color 5: 723 (5 skeins)
XS version:
For a friend, my mom made a XS version. She used approx. 1500 meters. The yarn she used:
Lana grossa cool wool melange color 140 (green)
Scheepjes merino soft brush color 251 (yellow)
We used a 3.5 mm crochet hook (E/4)
You can pick your own yarn of choice, but i would recommend to buy yarn suitable for crochethook 3.5mm, 4mm. The pattern can be different when you use a bigger or smaller hook. The base will be off and so will be your shrug.
